Analytical Exposition Text : Definition, Structure and Language Features

 Ketika kita ingin memaparkan argumen dalam bentuk tulisan, kita bisa menulis sebuah analytical exposition text. 

Apa itu analytical exposition text? 

Definisi analytical exposition text Menurut Collins Dictionary, analytical sendiri ialah an analytical way of doing something involves the use of logical reasoning atau cara analitis dalam melakukan sesuatu yang melibatkan penggunaan penalaran logis. Sedangkan exposition menurut Dictionary.com adalah writing or speech primarily intended to convey information or to explain. Exposition adalah tulisan atau pidato utamanya bertujuan untuk menyampaikan informasi atau untuk menjelaskan. Sehingga, analytical exposition text adalah teks bahasa Inggris yang isinya adalah argumen logis dari penulis mengenai sebuah masalah yang perlu diperhatikan.

Tujuan analytical exposition text 

The purpose of the analytical exposition text is to persuade the reader that there is something which needs an attention. Tujuan dari jenis teks ini adalah untuk memengaruhi pembaca bahwa ada sesuatu yang perlu mendapat perhatian. Biasanya hal-hal yang dibahas ialah fenomena atau permasalahan yang berkaitan erat dengan kehidupan sehari-hari.

 

Generic structure of analytical exposition text 

Dilansir dari Sumber Belajar Kemdikbud, struktur umum analytical exposition adalah sebagai berikut:

•  Thesis: bagian awal teks adalah thesis, yaitu penjelasan topik masalah dan opini dari      penulis.
•  Argument: bagian ini memaparkan argumen-argumen yang mendukung opini penulis. 
•  Reiteration: bagian akhir teks adalah reiteration yang berupa penulisan kembali thesis yang atau opini dari penulis. Biasanya bagian ini diawali dengan From the fact above… (dari fakta di atas…), Therefore… (maka dari itu…), In conclusion… (Kesimpulannya…), dan lain-lain. 

Language features of analytical exposition text 

Masih mengutip Sumber Belajar Kemdikbud (seamolec), ciri kebahasaan dari analytical exposition text adalah: 

• Tenses yang digunakan adalah simple present tense 
• Argumen diawali dengan firstly, secondly, thirdly, dan seterusnya. 
• Frase untuk mengakhiri teks berupa from the fact above, therefore, dan lain-lain. 

Example of analytical exposition text 

• Berikut contoh teks analytical exposition tentang pelanggar protokol kesehatan covid: 

     

           COVID-19 health protocol violators should be sanctioned 

    COVID-19 health protocol violators should be sanctioned. As we know, the number of people infected with the covid virus is still increasing in our country, but some people still ignore the health protocol by not wearing mask and keeping their distance. Firstly, the violators will continue to ignore the health protocol suggested by the government if they aren’t sanctioned. By being sanctioned, they will feel deterred and ashamed so that in the future they will obey the rules given. 

     Secondly, by sanctioning the violators, they will understand responsibility. Not only does it prevent us from being infected by the virus, but adhering to health protocols also keep others safe. We may not feel infected, but at least we prevent bad things by continuing to keep distance and wearing masks. That way, we will fulfill our responsibilities to ourselves and others. 

        Lastly, giving sanctions to the violators will make them more aware of the danger of COVID-19. It is said that WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic, which means that this virus is very dangerous, so it is best to continue to maintain health and avoid COVID-19. Therefore, the health protocol violators should be sanctioned because of the reasons given above.

Analisa general structure 

Thesis ada pada paragraf pertama, "COVID-19 health protocol violators should be sanctioned. As we know...". Pada paragraf pertama penulis menjelaskan topik masalah yakni tentang pelanggar protokol kesehatan Covid-19. Ia menyampaikan opininya bahwa pelanggar seharusnya diberi sanksi. 

Argument ada pada paragraf kedua, ketiga, dan keempat. Pada bagian ini, penulis memberikan tiga argumen untuk mendukung opininya. 

Reiteration ada pada kalimat terakhir, "Therefore, the health protocol violators should be sanctioned because of the reasons given above." Pada bagian ini, penulis mengulang atau menegaskan opininya setelah memaparkan beberapa argumen.
